Title: Weird Dropout
Post by: blu666z on February 29, 2004, 02:46:32 PM
Never seen this before.  Transfering a show I taped last night.  Everything is perfect until 50:51.  At that point I have what at first I thought was a dropout.  Silence until 50:57.  Then my home deck will stop playing.  I can hit play again and it will have another couple seconds of silence and then the sound comes back and everything is great.  If I rewind while still playing, when it goes from 50:57 back to 50:51 there IS music there.  Do I need to call a preist to get the demons out of my deck?  Bad spot on the tape?

Same problem when playing back on the deck used to record the tape?

5 spots of diginoise when played back on the D7.  I'm about to give up on taping.  I can't get through a single night w/o fucking something up.

Is the digi-noise always in the same place when you play back on the D7?  When's the last time both the D7 and playback deck were cleaned?  Heads aligned / serviced?

could def be an alignment issue

Deck has been serviced by ProDig within last 6 months.  It just this one spot.  Would I have a problem throughout if it was alignment?

Getting a clip to post.

Played it back now several times and the noise is always at the same spots best I can tell.

Thanks for helping me not go insane guys...+T to everybody when we're done.

I've got a spot on my Stereophonics tape from Wednesday that sounds almost exactly like that.  It is at the beginning of their first song and I think the music completely overloaded everything.  Happened right before I adjusted my levels.

Had any luck with this yet?

That sounds like digital signal (i.e. cable) going in and out.

You thinking S/PDIF from the UA-5 -> D7?  Interference or do you think something is wring with my cable?  Curious why it never happened again the rest of the show.

Do you remember bumping your bag or your cables at all around then?

Not specifically.  I check my bag throughout the show.

Hook up a line signal (cd player or something) to the UA-5>D7 at home and monitor thru your D7 headphone or line out.  See if you can recreate the noise by wiggling your cable.
