I can only tell you what I use, very successfully.

Yamaha MDX596 MD Deck > Optical Out > Dio2496 soundcard > record in Soundforge 6.

I'd say the optical out/in bit is most important.   The Yamaha is a perfectly good MD deck, although won't play an MD recorded in LP modes.   For that, I use a portable Sharp recorder to transfer, again via the Dio2496 but using 1/8" out to RCA phonos.   There is a lesson there,  If an MD doesn't seem to play, it is not necessarily a problem with the disc.

I use SF6 because I like it and runs my favourite plug-ins better than newer versions.   Any basic audio editor will do the job.   I like my old Dio2496, which is at least 10 years old.   Superb spec; but there are probably good alternatives available for much less these days.

Hope this helps.

If you have an optical out on your minidisc you could use a stock UA-5!

sorry but I can't give you any additional info from what anr stated.

It doesn't sound like you have a UA-5, but it was mentioned as on option. But last time I tried to go from my D7, optical out > optical in on my UA-5, then optical out to my recorder, it didn't work. So ended up using my old setup D7 > opti out > Audiophile 2496 (opti in) > record mode of my editing software.

But yes, if you can keep the signal all digital, that is preferred (so no red/white rca plugs or mini 1/8" plugs)

I just happen to have  Sony with OPTICAL outs and Inputs... If you want it $60 + shipping it includes 7 new blanks. And its a home unit half space.
