So my HIMD after 6 years of faithful usage is finally giving me more problems then its worth. While I only see shows and tape even less I decided to get a new piece of gear. Discs are getting increasingly expensive and hard harder to find and a new M200 is several hundred bux more expensive I decided to go with the M10. I it arrived this morning not realizing there was a D50 that is $200 more and may or may not being worth the extra money.
I use DPA4060 + MMA6000 so I wont need digital in or internal mics. Its pretty much just something to record whatever the mics pick up. All other things being equal is there a difference in quality from one to the other....issues with one vs the other. Ive read a handful of threads and didn't see much comparison between the two units in terms of just ability to record and stability.

If you don't need digital in, then the M10 rocks! I've only had mine for ~month, but I love it. Can't beat the battery life.

I have owned both and they are both great recorders. I down sized to the M10 because it is smaller and only uses 2 batteries. If you needed the optical in/out or better on board mics then I would go with the D50. The D50 uses the sony pro duo cards which are alittle more expensive then the micro sdhc cards the M10 uses. As for sound quality I don't notice a difference in my recordings.

The only thing that I don't like that I can think of is the hold button doesn't hold the input controls. WTF is with that?

For what youre doing w/ it, I say stick w/ the M10 :)

Cool, thanks for the info. I'll report back after tonights show and hopefully it will work as well as my MD did for all these years.

Just looking thru the menu and I don't see an option to disable internal mics so is it safe to assume that once I plug in my mics the internal mics will shut off?

Correct. Any source plugged into either the MIC or LINE input disables the internal mics.

^^thanks, I assumed as much.
So the settings im using are
mic sens: low
speed control: off
rec level: manual
running line in and signal should be hot enough from the DPAs and can add gain from the MMA if its not.
on a 8gb card + internal memory gives me pretty much unlimited record time even at 24bit which i doubt Ill record at since Im just going to put this on my iphone to listen to.

You should STILL record at 24/44 or 24/48 ;)

Ok so I'm at Sheryl crow tonight in the 2nd section of the amphitheater it sounds nice and loud but my levels seem lower then hey should be. I've got input cranked unto 10 and ven turned up the mma to + 7.5db on each channel and it's still hardly going over the halfway mark on the input meters.
Running line in, manual gain, low sensitivity. With my Sony MD I would be 0db gain on the pre and 26-27 of 30 on the line input level.
Any thoughts?

If your recording 24bit you can boost the levels in the post!

Forgot to change to 24bit so it's 16/44.
Kid rock seems to be louder so we'll see. Tomorrow is APC at The Greek which I believe is also an outdoor place but we'll have close seats so I'll have something to compare with tonight.
