I am going to >:D an upcoming jazz jusion show and my seat is front row off to one side (not center). I have never been to this venue, but I am thinking I may be in front of the line array (unknown if it will be flown or not) and may be near some subs.
What would be best, cards or omnis? Omni's would sound more natural that close, but I am worried about how bassy if may be near the subs. Cards may be a good bet, but not so natural sounding and most of us use directional mics when we are further back in the venue.

You can always make EQ adjustments later if necessary. If the possition you are in makes that necessary, you probably will need to do so regarless of which pattern you choose, and it will be more a questions of dialing in howmuch adjustment and where. The choice of pattern may hinge more on what kind of crowd you expect and how you need to manage that. I'd go omnis, but I'm biased, usually get good crowds, and almost always EQ it anyway.
Mmmm jazz jusion. If this is the show I think it is, an important thing is clarity of the piano, clarity of the piano, clarity of the piano.

Yes, worried about how muddy things could sound with cards given the instruments, but like you say it'll need EQ adjustment in post. I may bring both types of mics and make a game time decision based on the crowd around me. I am thinking the audience will be full of jazz fusion enthusiasts and musos, not drunk-off-their-ass chatty/loud people. Claps after solos and between songs would be expected.

I would also opt for omnis.

Omni's it is. I have 3 Church Audio to choose from + 853 Omni + 853 Subcards. Ah the choices.

I used CA-14 Omni's and it turned out very good. Attached is where I was sitting (see small oval front row). Sample to follow.
