so i just got a new shure vert bar. partially to allow me to run blumein, partially for xy.
looking at how i set up the vert bar with my shockmounts for xy has kinda freaked me out. does anyone else run their tl's in a horizontal xy, rather than the vertical xy that moke posted all those pics of ?
im trying to run xy horizontal for castino & austin @ cervantes. a venue with nortoriously shitty sound, and want to try some new patterns with the ld's.
thanks.

Shoot JasonB a PM...when he ran the TLs, I saw him run them mics in horizontal XY on a shure vert bar...

yes, I use a "horizontal" x/y setup, same for blumlein and m/s.

so craig, are u using a vert bar, or just a regular stereo bar or something different ?

low profile is not the right way to go at cervantes moke. it is combat taping for sure there. i have thought of the way that you do your xy pattern, and it makes a lot of sense, but i think that the vert bar as-is will allow me to run em horizontally too.

Shure a27m vert bar.
Sometimes the width of the "horiz" x/y isn't that big a deal and allows to keep the mic diaphragms just a little bit higher. When running fob, I can't see useing "vert" x/y since I'll have to lower the mics a little to keep the xlr cable of the top mic from being above 5 1/2'. I like to keep the diaphrams up as high as possible so the surrounding bodies don't "block the sound". Sometimes on stage height is a bigger problem than width, so for the same reasons I'd stick with "horiz" x/y to keep the diaphrams higher.
I can see why "vert" x/y would be better for some situations - tall thin obstruction compared to short fat. I recently received a spacer for the a27m, so I'll be using the "vert" x/y when the situation dictates.

thanks guys. i have already spent some time messing with the stanard spacing on the vert bar and moved it out a lot. i guess i have to fiddle with my shockmounts a little more. for friday nite ill run horizontal xy, then for their sunday show it will be blumein for sure. hopefully onstage as well.

the easiest and cheapest way i've fround w/ out having to buy a t bar or vert bar is just buying a clamp. screw one mount into the top of the stand and clamp the other below it. worked good for me so far!

having problems trying to picture running blumlein with the mics horizontal...is this even possible?
I sold my vert bar, because it was a pain to get the TL's in blumlein, ms or xy vertical.
havent run them horizontal....I have 2 clamps for when I need to run any of those patterns
