any comments on the usability of this? 

for $20 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832135306&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL100611&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL100611-_-EMC-100611-Index-_-SoftwareAudioVideoEditing-_-32135306-L015B) i'm thinking about giving it a go but know nothing about it. i'm used to wl5.

I use it and love it.Acid xpress is free from  acidplanet.com     are you refering to acid pro or acid studio?There is also free 8 packs of samples at acidplanet weekly.

it's music studio 8.

i'm not really concerned with samples since i don't do much of that kind of work and i have abelton live already for when i want to play around. i was more concerned with how it compared to wl for recording and editing.

Ahh...i use it only for sampling and scoring.I do all my audio editing and mastering in sony vegas,but i could do it in acid i suppose.I have never used wavelab so i cant compare.But for $20 you really cant go wrong.

thanks, you pretty much answered my question with that. i figured $20 was too good to be worth it but had to ask anyway.
