Title: How much would you give for a second hand IRiver H120 ?
Post by: fandelive on October 07, 2011, 05:58:47 AM
Hi,

I'm currently looking for a second hand IRiver (H120 or H320) to build an alternate taping rig.

I've seen someone selling his used 20Go H120. The battery lasts for about 4 or 5 hours which is still enough to tape a show.
He asks for 95 USD (postage not included). I think it's overpriced.

What do you think ?

Researching the market price here on TS is probably not representative.
16bit is getting out of fashion for taping. You will find buyers willing to pay more in other communities (head-fi, other rockbox users etc).

Selling price on ebay ranges wildly between $300 to $40, mainly depending on country and shipping options:
http://www.ebay.com/csc/i.html?_nkw=iriver+%28h1*%2Ch3*%2Cihp%29+-%28h10%2Cfor%2Cfuer%29&_sacat=0&LH_LocatedIn=0&_sop=3&_dmd=1&LH_Complete=1&_odkw=iriver+%28h1*%2Ch3*%2Cihp%29+-%28h10%2Cfor%2Cfur%29&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

What decides the market price to a large extent is the distance from the US. In the US, buyers are spoilt for choice and wouldn't pay high prices for 6-7 year old technology. The further away from US you go (from a tax/customs perspective) the higher the second hand market price for this kind of used gear. "Internet maturity", ie the willingness of buyers to purchase from overseas vs. being preferrential to local deals, is another factor.

I paid $100 for a cf card modded iriver with a new battery a couple months back. Apparently some of the new recorders can be had for under $200. Hope this helps some

A stock iHP120 for $85 is not unreasonable....I use mine for a 16bit Bit bucket with a Old Denecke AD20...it still sounds nice to me....for a back up and easy to power for a festie

If I were looking for one, I'd drop $95 in a heartbeat for one with a good battery. I paid about that for one I have which is flakey.  Finding one that works reliably and has a good battery is getting less common. If it were me I'd buy it and be happy instead of quibbling over a few bucks.

If you don't buy it please send me the contact info, I'll probably buy it.
