Post by: Red Boink on October 13, 2011, 08:22:26 PM
Here's a link to an article in TV technology about an increasing amount of folks buying "sennheiser" products that break and are bought to the authentic Sennheiser for warranty work only to find their expensive mics are frauds.

That article only mentions Senn headphones but does link to a Sennheiser counterfit alert which doesn't mention any specific product categories but also doesn't exclude any product categories.  Hope no mics are involved.

I know that Shure's get counterfitted a lot, but they have a much bigger market share.

Those are the largest sellers and easiest target.  Microphone fraud is real shure sm57s and 58s are targets because they're popular.   This is just a word to the wise...  watch who you're dealing with.

The main Sennheiser items that are faked are:
evolution wireless systems
evolution wired mics.
in-ear headphones

There may be other stuff that I don't know of, but these are the main ones.

I had heard about Sennheiser headphones being counterfeited for several years now but wasn't aware it had spread to some microphone lines.

Hey, I'm a pool shooter, too and have seen and played with "high end cues" that seemed well made but are chinese copy cats, the materials give them away, but you have to know the original items well to tell.  I'm sure there are high margin counterfeit microphones floating out there.

evolution radio has been counterfeited since G1 and the wired vocal mics at about the same time.   It's been going on for many years.
