Title: problems with wav files

:help:

I've encountered a problem with some files that are supposed to be wave sound. I converted the shns in mkwact...as usual, but when I tried to set up a nero compilation, it tells me that it's not a valid wav format. Winamp won't even play the files. Also when I look at the summary it doesn't list anything like bit rate, etc. Does anyone know how to fix this?

it may be a 48khz wav.

can you post a very short (2 seconds) sample on a server?  i'll open it up on CEP and tell you what it is.

what program did you use to record what was coming from the minidisc?

that rules out 48khz wav.  what's the extension of your files?  it should be ".wav"

do a right click on the file > Properties.  what does windows say about the file?

I didn't tape this...it is a show that I downloaded. It's Incubus 12-6-98.

The person could have ripped it with EAC straight to SHN with ID3 tags.  In that case you will have to strip the tags from the SHN's first.  Where did you get the files?

I can almost guarantee you that that's what happened.  Are other people reporting the same problem?  You need to rename the extension to mp3, get an mp3 tag stripper (google), and then rename them back to shn.

um...that sounds complicated...this show isn't for me personally so i'm not gonna go to all that trouble...so think I will just burn the shns to a disc and give him instructions for dl'ing winamp so he can listen to 'em. thanks for the suggestion on that so that way i will know what to do when i encounter this again :)

even though the problem has been solved, i know for a fact that wimamp will play 48khz files, .02
