I want to use my PMD660 to record remotely for extensive periods of time. I will not be able to change batteries all the time and am therefore looking for external power options. I searched the forums but couldn't find a clear (understandable) answer to my question. Could somebody please suggest (in laymen terms) a good external battery option for my PMD660? And could someone explain to me if an external usb battery could work (for example this one: http://www.isound.net/shop-by-type/accessories/i-sound-portable-power-16000-mah.html).
I hope someone can help me.

That battery looks like it will power the 660 for a LONG time! Basicly any USB style battery pack will run the 660 with a USB > Size B Plug (4.00mm OD × 1.70mm ID / Center pin (+) Ring (-) / Normal Polarity) Cable. Let me know if you need one built

Thanks for your answer. Do you mean I could use a USB battery as long as I have a connecter that makes the usb-out of the battery connect to the 5V DC-in of the PMD660? I am based in the UK, if you make those kind of cables do you also ship them to the UK and how long does that take?

But can you answer my question please? And how do you make sure the output power of the battery equals the input of the PMD660 with a usb to 5V DC?
What I do not understand is if I have a battery with USB out, is it possible to connect it to adapters with a 2.5mm dc plugin or do I have to be careful with the voltages etc. I am a newbie when it comes to these terms...

tgakidis made me a USB battery cable for a similar battery for my 661. I've run it for ~7hrs so far, and it's still showing 85% charge!! The build quality of his cables is outstanding, you won't regret the cost and wait.
Below is a real cheap option. I use the first generation model (PP-99) and it still works great.

What I don't understand yet is that the Marants PMD660 says it uses 0.8A while a USB battery only gives 5V 0.5A. Doesn't that mean a cable that can connect USB to 5v DC won't be enough or does your cable somehow increase the current?
I ran the 660 for about 4 yrs.
I got a tekkeon, which is expensive and in some peoples eyes overkill.
But knowing I could run the full set-up for at least 15+hrs with phantom on was worth it's weight.
The 660 wants 5volts so like Ted said get a battery that outputs a constant 5 volts.
Don't try and feed it anything over that because it hates it.

I think you're confusing the USB minimum standard (.5 amps at 5 volts) with the actual output of the battery. The spec sheet for the battery you found lists the following:
What are the power requirements for the devices to be charged?
The Portable Power Max will charge any device with a maximum current
requirement of 2.5 Amps. As an example, the iPhone requires maximum 1
Amp. However, when multiple devices are simultaneously charged
together they must not exceed 2.5 Amps in total. The voltage requirement
of each device charged must be 5 Volts.
Thus, this battery (and any battery that will charge an iphone 3 or 4 which require 1amp of current to charge) will have no problem providing the current (amps) needed to run the PMD660
