Quick question for you DR2D users. I did a quick format and it took like 2 seconds. So I tried doing a "Full Format" and its been going for about 20 minutes. Is this normal ???
My M10 formats in about 10 seconds :P

The DR2D can be finicky with certain SD cards. If it is taking more than 5 minutes to do a full format, then I would highly suspect that it does not like your SD card. Out of curiosity, what brand are you using? I went from a transcend 16G (which caused the recorder to stop after about an hour of recording and generated a file error message) to a Kingston 16G and have had no problems since.

Its a no name tonedeaf gave me w/ my 1st M10, but is in a MiniSDHC>SDHC adapter. I tried to full format the 2gb Transcend that came w/ the DR2D, and it took forever and I just pulled the batteries and did a quick format :(
I am def getting a few 32gb SDHC Cards, but its going to have to wait until after XMAS :P I cant even use my dr2d until I get my new Busman actives and an LB end of January. So I wont have a preamp for another 6 weeks. Might try and buy MarkF's T+Mod UA5 to hold me over til I get my LB :)
So, I normally use A-Data[that's what is in both my M10's] MicroSDHC Cards and so far *knocks on wood* have been flawless so far, so I will PROB buy a few A-Data 32gb cards :)

Full Format with big cards like 32 gig can take that long, because at it says full format completely deletes the card, while quick format only rewrites the FAT which takes a few seconds.

I'm getting an error message trying to update firmware from ver 1.0 to 1.3 (latest)
Followed the instructions and get all the way to the update screen, it sees the 1.3 update file but when I press Enter I get the ERROR message.
Nothing about this on the Tascam site that I could find.
Any ideas?
edit - just tried to update from ver. 1 to ver. 1.1, but still get ERROR Update File message.

Sufficient battery power, If yes than just start over. Try new batteries, than do the routine. I had no problems first time doing it. That was with the batteries supplied. Delete all update files in the Utility folder before retrying.

When did the new firmware come out?

When did the new firmware come out?
It is not new, version 1.03 came out March 18, 2011. :alert:
-
is there any advantage to the new firmware?? I mean, mine still works fine.
-
Hard to say as the website for Tascam does not say what was fixed. That said, they went to all the trouble of the firmware release, so it likely improves on something. I have not heard anyone have any issues using the new firmware, so there is no harm in the upgrade.

Two steps that the Tascam manual conveniently left out:
1. After you download the .zip update file, you need to unzip it; then,
2. Open the unzipped file and copy only the DR-2d_23.103 file within it to the UTILITY folder of the DR-2d
No Release Notes, so hard to say what the update does for the Unit.
