Anyone eve consider this box ? They are had on eBay for under $200. I've held one...its metal, beefy and small. The good points:
- M-A's best preamps on the two XLR inputs
- analog and s/pdif output
- DC operation
- stand alone features !!.
You can set the recording source and resolution ..output bus..etc, all in software and it saves to the box for use w/o a computer at the settings you've selected. So ...it can go in the field.

Nick...I've been swooning over the Focusrite boxes...Most people will agree that their Microphone Preamp section has very nice sound...12v DC power...Digital out...Meters and will operate standalone

The ADC might be more current..... but do you think these might sound better than the "original poor-man's V3", the T+UA5?? I still think the T+ sounds great.
These look interesting... keep us posted if you try either of em out.

There is a Scarlett version...you just give up the meters...and stand alone...I'd think the rest is the same....

I've looked at these too, but have not read anything about stand alone operation.

Without the stand alone option you're giving up the "new UA-5" advantage of using it as an in-the-field pre. Those M-Audio and Focusrite boxes look pretty slick, though. Hard to argue with the prices, too, if they sound as good as they look.
The Saffire 14 and 24 pre/AD's are defiantly Stand alone according to the manufacturer

the 14 doesn't have meters
