I'm also interested, and i would like to know about 2 specific areas that do concern me for stealth operations:
(a) how easy/difficult is it to inadvertently push the dual power/hold switch the wrong way (in the dark etc);
(b) How easily do the level dials move given that the hold button does not disengage these (assuming you pushed the dual hold/power switch in the correct direction in the first place and did not power down the recorder!)
It seems to me that this recorder is not really designed for stealthing, but someone who has tried it may be able to say otherwise?

My question is this: How well does it work running line in to the 1/8" jack. If I owned one I would want to run something like my Littlebox into that 1/8" jack and save the XLRs for SBD.
The manual says that the 1/8" max input is +4dbu, so that says it will take a hot input, but a quick browse of the manual makes it sound like your gain settings are High/Medium/Low, not an adjust range. Just curious how that works out. For instance on my R09 there are separate LineIn/MicIn jacks and gain of 0-30, where I assume LineIn takes the preamp stage out of the loop. On R26 it's one jack, and may not have have adjustable gain. Does it amplify then attenuate? or have software control switches that route signal around the preamp.

I sent an email to Roland support to ask about how the R-26 handles line input. There is no dedicated line input jack. You can set the sensitivity of the XLR input to +4 dBu. I got a response saying, "You won't need line input unless you're using an external preamp." Duh... So I asked again, being more specific.
Update: It took a week, but here's the response:
"You can set the Analog input levels to +4 (line level) in the INPUT SENS SETUP menu."
So line level input is possible, but only through the XLR jacks.

I'd just like to hear the preamps. If they are as decent as the stock R44, its a winner.
