I have a Rock boxed HP120 with upgraded 30GB hard-drive with external power...remote, etc. I have primarily used as an mp3 player....and patched it analog out the rca's on my v-2 which sounded real nice.
I'm curious what would be a decent low profile mic set up/ battery box/ etc to use in front of the HP120...and if I can optical in or not. Any info would be helpful.

I fed my H120 an optical signal from a UA-5 for a while when I was using one.

V2 out into a Sony SMB1 with Optical Cable might be the ticket...
I run AKG C460b CK61 > Denecke PS/2 > Denecke AD-20 > iRiver ihp120
here is a taste...

I like the sound of my old Denecke AD-20 and consider it a upgrade over the internal iRiver A/D converter...it is Optical input...with the PS/2 I can run any P48 microphone...Power is easy too...4 9v's and a 4 AA's for an all day festival rig
Not sure how low profile (you do have 3 small things instead of 1 big box) or if it is financially smart...as this is 10 year old technology and for the price of a iRiver and AD-20 you can pick up a Tascam DR-2D

I already have the Iriver and was just deciding what would match well with it and if it was worth it to worry about the optical. I was looking at the new Church Pre-amp with either the Church cards are a pair of sound Pros with the Sennheiser caps.

I'd get a tinybox!! You won't be able to use optical, but it is smaller than a church pre and I like the construction alot better on the TB(Metal case). Also an internal battery that can run for up to 40 hours in the right situations. A set of mini mics and your good to go.

Who makes mini box...and any mic recommendation with it...?

Tinybox is made by Jon Naiant!! You can run lots of mics with it, I would get a KCY version and run schoeps caps. That might cost more than you are willing to spend at the moment. If you are looking for a cheap alternative there is a set of MM HLSC mics in the YS with the 4.7 mod. Here is a link to the Tinybox and a set of MM HLSC 2 in the YS. Again Jon can setup the Tinybox to run with lots of mics, just depends on what you are looking for.
