Title: What cordage for 12v DC plug
Post by: jacallery on March 11, 2004, 11:17:15 AM
Hey , I am having to construct my own cable to go from
my 12v existing 4pin xlr to a new DC plug for some power.
I am needing to know what type of cordage(wiring) I will
need.  One end will have DCplug (that plugs into recorder)
and the other will have 4pin xlr(thatconnects to 12v 4pin.

Any help greatly appreciated
callery

(any cable specs will help)

It is the Fostex FR2 new recorder.  They have a wierd size 12vDC in jack
and Fost3ex told me they were bringing in the PLug W/cable from
Manufacturer sometime soon, so until then I need to construct one
now to run 12v DC.  I found a manufacturer on-line

power consumption on the unit is 5.7~10w

Take it into a RAT SHACK and see if they have an "Adapta Plug" that will fit it.

If so, then buy one of these:

http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F009%5F001%5F001%5F004&product%5Fid=273%2D1641

and snip the MALE END OFF and solder it onto your XLR/4 Connector.  Pin ONE is ground, and Pin FOUR is +12V (at least on the Eco-Charge, which I believe follows the industry standard).

Hope this helps...

Thanks slickrick,  Rat Shack didn't have the needed plug.
Looks like I will have to wait for fostex to bring the
jack/cable in from the manufacturer.  At least the wrong
voltage jack can't be inserted into the unit, and
blow it up.  But also looks like I'll be using
8xAA 2300mah NiMH to get about two hrs rec time
or the AC adapter till Fostex gets on the Ball.
Oh the problems of being a new product guinie pig.

Does the sucker have a wallwart supply that goes into the same plug?  If so HACK IT OFF and replace it with either the adaptaplug cords or the RC Battery Kit modular plugs so's you can switch it back and forth between the wallwart & the SLA.

or hack it off and replace it on the wallwart w/ a female xlr, then you can attach your modded cord to either the wallwart or the 12v SLA.
