My Edirol has now recorded three concerts on two cards, all of which will not copy over to the PC, and I assume the files are corrupted.
I get a "files not found in same location" error message, and they won't play well on the Edirol (sounds distorted) nor on the PC either when I try to play them from the Edirol. I tried CheckDisk utility on Windows and the drive was fine. That is about the extent of my knowledge base.
Is there a program that I can use to get the files to copy and thence to save and edit?
I'm not terribly computer literate so be simple. To me this sounds like a Recorder problem, as the unit has worked flawlessly until now.
Thanks in advance

Try Audacity, go to files> import > raw data. I think that worked for me once to open a corrupted file.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. Maybe time to move to a new bit box

I suspect the cards more than the recorder.
Were the cards freshly formatted before the recording?
You might want to flip the write protect switches on the cards to prevent writing until you have recovered the audio.
There are quite a few threads here about using photorec to recover files. I'd give that a try.

Hey Eleven:
The Edirol simply won't read any card--it writes and records, just does not read the card. Windows Explorer tries to read from the card, but Explorer clicks on and off, and ultimately crashes that drive after a few seconds; It then cycles on and off, desparately trying to read the card. if left on for 12 hours, the card finally reads, and I could offload the files from the Card on the Edirol using a wave editor as suggested..
I have an old Edirol 09, not the HR, and for shits and grins, gave that a try, and the two cards were read and copied just fine. So the Edirol can record, just not "play back."
So...... The Edirol 09HR appears to be toast. Shame, I sure liked the layout
Ordered a New Sony M10 for $225 free shipping and we'll make change.
This is why it is nice to have a back up bit box. I may order a second M10 for that reason.
Anyone want an 09HR for free?
Thanks for everyone who responded.

Are you able to try reading on the pc via a different card reader? For corrupt files or files that haven't written properly (eg damaged/incomplete header info) I use data recovery programs, there's a lot out there and results do tend to vary but I've always managed to get the data back onto the pc in some form or other, might be worth a go.
FWIW I always format the cards on the device that I'm recording onto before use (as opposed to a pc format) - seems to give better results (both read/write).
-
Yeah, Exxile, the Cards are fine. Like you I always reformat the card on the device before recording. Just part of the routine--load new batteries, check card, format, adjust tentative volume, and start taping down switches, lights and mike cords.
Its the Edirol for sure. Made a voice recording this morning; Would not copy or play, took out the card, put in my old Edirol and it played, copied, etc perfectly.
That 09HR is toast. But its had some hard use in the field.

The r-09 has a built in fix for corrupted files.

Yes - you beat me in saying this.
The R-09HR is brilliant in that it has a built-in program to recover corrupted files.
I wish all machines had this, but it only seems to be the R-09HR that is this good.

If the media can be be read, you might try FTP'ing the files one by one. Copy will fail with an error and discard the copied content. Whereas an FTP will read as much of the file as it can and you will have a copy of whatever it was able to read.

this happened to me over a year ago and i also posted a message. i was never able to do anything with my file. most likely you have bad sdhc. but 2 bad sdhc?

OK. This is a host computer issue.
Edirol records fine. Plays back fine. Cards recorded on Edirol can be read by host computer if placed in another device. But Edirol can not be read by host computer.
For grins, I connected the "defective" Edirol to another computer and it read the Edirol just fine.
So, for reasons which I am not sure, my host computer, an HP suddenly does not like to read the Edirol device. There are no drivers to load per se. And updating the Edirol firmware and restting did not cause it to be recognized by the host. It still is recognized by other computers in our home, Dell, Compact.
Having a tech guy come over tomorrow.

USB sockets can wear out from use, or just wear out.
Have you tried one the other sockets on the computer? Maybe one on the back?
-
Yep. Tech guy confirmed bad USB port. Oh well, I gotta new Sony M-10 out of the deal.
