Title: Soft-knee compression in Samplitude?
Post by: rodeen on February 07, 2012, 03:05:55 PM
I am using Samplitude 11.2 and was wondering if anyone can suggest how to do soft-knee compression in it?  I was looking for a dynamics preset for it but haven't seen one.

TIA for any help or direction!

I haven't found a preset but there is mention of "knee",  hard and soft, on page 558 of the manual. As with all things Samplitude, work in a VIP and play around with the settings til you get it sounding the way you want. If you're like me that means lots of trial and error (mostly errors) until I know what more of the options do and I become familiar with them.

ditto flipp.

It's in there.  Just open up one of the compressors and look for a knee swich.  I know it's there in Samp 10 Mastering Edition, as I just used it a few weeks ago, so its gotta be in 11 too.  The soft knee was the ticket too, on two compression instances- one a straight comp for bottom end and some dynamic control and a second paralleled to bring up detail and presence. Mmmm, tasty.  I bought a new copy of Samp Pro X at the end of the year but haven't played much with that yet.

Advanced Dynamics has two cascading compressors and a "soft" control.

This is the "Advanced Dynamics" plugin that you use in the Object Editor.
