I was wondering what people have experienced with this mic. Primarily it would be used for onstage matrix.

Isnt the diff in what connector is at the end of the mic ???

The "i"means the mic accepts phantom power. I believe the USM 69 is a tube mic which needs a PSU.

Any Neumann mic designated with an "i" means that it has an XLR connector. Non 'i" versions had Tuchel connectors. The "i" has nothing to do with whether or not the mic uses phantom power.

It looks like the gray cable on the right has Tuchel on mic end, then probably someone put a 5pin XLR on the other end to make it a bit more modern. Then you have the 5pin to duel XLR's on the left. If the mic does in fact run off Phantom power, you are ready to go.
One thing to consider, if there is any reason to suspect a sleeze bag seller, is that anyone can solder connectors onto a cable to make it LOOK good...

I was wondering what people have experienced with this mic. Primarily it would be used for onstage matrix.
I use one (SM 69) and have used it for a number of purposes........piano, OH, percussions, blue grass, etc. It is basically two 87's and can also be used as you would use an 87. Most recently, 3-10-12, we used it over Runa's percussionist.
I've attached a few shots and one shot of their incredibly hot looking violin player.
You will certainly enjoy it on stage in your matrix mix.

Usm69 is FET
The orig SM69 was a tube mic (using 2 ac701 tubes) - there is a sm69 FET version as well.

It looks like a standard 5pin XLR (from the cable - swivel in pic has standard old skool switchcraft 5 pin XLR) with the threads simply used to attach a swivel for overhead mounting etc - not needed to operate the mic.
