Anybody have any good ideas for quality Omnis run off Church Audio CA-9200 with 3.5mm jacks?
-
Virtually any of the small ones, as long as you terminate them to 1/8". Only Nevaton MCE400 won't work.
I'd look to:
DPA 4060/4061
Countryman B3 (these or the DPAs are probably the best)
Audix 1280 omnis
Church Audio CA-14
You'll have to have someone reterminate the B3s or 406x mics. The Audix mics require a cable that Chris makes. The CA-14s are, of course, already wired for use with CA preamps.

the DPAs are great but cost $$$$, the CA-14s are great as well but more in the $ range. if you get the CA-14s the caps do not remove like on the 11s so if you want cards and omnis you need two whole sets of mics. CA-14s > CA-PRE > digital recorder is a great sounding rig.

I have the CA-11 and CA-14 cards, I would get the CA-14 omnis, but hate the wait, I prefer instant gratification!
Maybe the thing to do here is get the omni caps for the CA-11's.
Any experience with the CA-11 omnis?

personally I love my ca-11 mics. I think they are very underrated I only sell about 20 pairs a year. But I think they are every bit as good as the ca-14 omni just smaller.

Got any omni caps lying around?

If Chris is still making them, his CA-1 model sounds nice as well and is super-small. Did well in a fairly legit comp vs. some 4060s one time...

I can order some next week.

Indeed... the CA-11 omnis and CA-14 omnis are more or less equal especially with the mkII CA-11's. There are noticeable differences with the cards.
The CA options are "budget friendly" but have made some EXCELLENT pulls for me when I rolled the 14's for a while. You can get two B3's for around ~$300 but then you'll need to get them re-terminated and they likely won't be matched. DPA 4061's are another story altogether. I would say 4061 is slightly better than the B3 and the B3 is slightly better than the CA-14/CA-11mkII. I wouldn't justify the price difference in the jump if you're happy with the CA-11mkII sound. I only went with DPA 4061's because I had both CA-14 omnis and CAFS omnis and it didn't make sense to have two different mics in my kit.

Remind me again, how do I know if my CA-11's are version 2?

How long ago did you buy them? I don't think there's a visible way to know but if it's been in the last 6 months to a year, I think they're the new mkII. I haven't owned them but have heard them used many times.

Chris,
How many pairs of CA14's do you sell per year? Just wondering!

I sell about 250 to 360 pairs of ca-14 mics per year. All built by me one at a time all hand matched by me and hand painted by me. And stuffed into envelopes by me...

ca-11 MKII have copper screens on the front and back of the capsule. As well as few other little treats inside you cant see :)
