I would love to get some 480s. My rig would then be 480s>DMIC-20>d8. Bean's rig.
However i was thinking about trying the oktavas with the hyper caps. In order to get the 480s i would need to sell my C1000s and oktavas and throw down some more dough.
So my question is try the hypers? or start saving for the 480s?

Night and day - save for the 480s (IMO)
-
Start saving!!!!!

you could sell the hypers to me :)
-
ok before you go about selling or buying, think about the types of venues you are in most of the time- are you taping phish from way far back, cause then you are gonna need the hypers. are you closer? you wont then.

keep in mind that your mics have the biggest impact on how your tapes come out....

start saving

save, get those 480's alex

i've run oktavas and 480s and they're not even in the same league. start saving for the 480s, you won't regret it.
-
Gotta go with everyone else. But save for the 480s plus the ck63s (hypers). :)
-
I'll throw one in for 480's, even though I don't own them. I just like the tapes I hear made with them :)
-
i'm with everybody else, start saving! the diff in these two mics are huge and you'll be glad you made the switch!

save up....I thought for a while about upgrading to a mid mic from the 391s I used to run, but I am definitely glad I saved and just ended up getting the Gefells, which are the mics I will be running from here on out....

i think its time for the 480s. Are the 480 bodies and card caps gonna run about $800. Also what if a great deal came along on some jim williams modded 460s? I ran a patch with some 460s once. Thought it was a nice tape.
How would you compare the 480s to the 460s?
