hello all,
in a few weeks i'm gonna be recording a spoken word performance at a small bar (50 to 60 people) on my styling new tascam dr40. i'm not that good holding a mic in front of my face (or speaking into one in a stand), so i'd like to get a wireless headset/ receiver/ transmitter for the vocal (the bar will have mics to record with). a buddy suggested i try something by shure, and i thought i'd ask around here as well since you guys always seem to have good advice. so what do you think? i can afford a couple of hundred bucks.
thanks in advance for your help!

My initial instinct is to say RENT. Good wireless systems are not cheap, and for a $200 budget.
That said, here is what B&H has.

Hi scoobie,
I can actually go to about 500. Im gonna be doing the spoken word thing in different venues and a decent headset would be a good investment. I go to b&h every once in a while but they can be kinda pricey. Its really more the model and what type of mic i need info on. :-D

I would still recommend you rent that way you can determine what you want. Maybe http://www.ted.com/ has information on what type of equipment they use.

On further thought.
Talk to my dealer.

Don't they make headsets for the DPA 406x series? Don't a lot of big production gigs use them?

Do you definitely want a headset, or would a lav work for you? My company puts on presentations and we use a couple of digital Line 6 XD-V70 lav systems. Sweetwater recommended these over some analog Shure systems we were thinking about purchasing. They were $500 for the lav mic, body pack transmitter, and receiver. XLR or 1/4" cable to plug the receiver into the mixer not included. I think they just discontinued this series in favor of a newer (XD-V75?), but you can still get the V70s on Amazon Marketplace. We just bought another one with a wireless handheld mic last week. These systems also can be purchased with the headset, but I think they were $50 or so more.
