Title: TSKB: Securing a RA miniplug to the M10
Post by: tim in jersey on April 19, 2012, 11:35:43 PM
Wasn't sure which board to post this in.

Looking for ideas on what/how to put something between the RA 1/8" connector and the line input of the m-10 as strain relief. Seems to me the RA connector acts as a lever and puts strain on the line-in input.

My initial thought was wrapping the part of the connector that runs parallel to the top of the recorder with gaff tape and then taping down the connector to the recorder so it doesn't twist in the input and introduce noise. Figured I'd throw this out there as there a bunch of clever folks on here that may have come up with a more elegant alternative.

Do something like this (pic taken from Sonic Studios website). Velcro is going to be better than gaff tape, but it really doesn't matter in the end. Strain relief and ensuring the connector cannot come loose is by far the more important aspect of any solution.

here is what I do
from my pics of my DIY RCA > 1/8 TRS to M-10  pictorial.

Note here I used velcro around the M-10
Now I actually just use a Broccoli rubber band to hold the cable in place, easy on and easy off.

Both options do the same thing... Whatever works for you.   The way my camera pouch is set up, I just leave the R/A connector to the preamp plugged in and call it a day (it can't really move).  :)

one other option is to get a custom made cable to RA plug, but i also end up using the broccoli rubberband as well.
