Well that should get some views.
I recently purchased a couple of Manfrotto super clamps without the stud. So I believe I need one. But after looking at B&H's site the choice is not obvious for me. So I will ask for suggestions. I will probably sell the other one seeing how I really don't see what to do with second one. Wait spaced omni's on the balcony rails. Boy do I have a dangerous brain.

With two clamps, this stud is super handy.

It lets you connect two clamps at a right angle. Clamp a stand or boom with one and clamp to a rail with the other.
and then I like this stud, it'll work with the 099b extension pole, and has a 3/8 thread which can be adapted up to 5/8 for American mic gear.

Recommend the 203 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/546442-REG/Manfrotto_203_203_Extension_Arm_for.html) for the mini clamp (above), as you can rotate and lock it into the superclamp socket at any inifinitely adjustable point throughout the 360º. The one designed for the superclamp (042 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/546373-REG/Manfrotto_042_042_Extension_Arm_with.html)) has a hex stud which only allows for locking at 60º intervals.

The most obvious difference is length. The B/M extends 4.72", while the SV extends 8".
But there may be another crucial factor. I can't tell for sure from the B&H photos, or others I've found online, whether the SV has a hex connector (adjustable in 60º increments) or round connector (like the B/M, infinitely adjustable). I think it has a hex connector. See attached photo. Note the bottom-most section (green arrow) goes deep into the superclamp slot and is secured by the tightening screw. The silver area above it (red arrow) also slots into the SC's hole and determines whether or not the extension's rotation is infinitely adjustable. This portion of the connector (red arrow) on the B/M 203 is round, allowing for infinite rotational adjustment. I think this section is hex on the SV 203, but I can't quite tell from the low-res pic.

You can see very clearly in the larger image the hex area. Comparing the 042 image v. the B/M 203 image and hopefully it's clear why the 203 offers infinite adjustment while the 042 does not.

Well actually I think the Hex would be better for me, since I run LD's. I feel it would be more secure. Correct me if I am wrong. Infinite has it's advantages.

I've used the 203 with LDs (AKG C414B-XLS) I found it plenty stable. YMMV.
The locking mechanism is the same across both, so they're equally safe in terms of secure connection, if not rotation. Most of the time, there's not much opportunity for accidental rotation, anyway, but I did encounter situations in which the 60º options didn't work and I needed the fully adjustable rotation. The most common scenario: clamping to a seat arm or back which results in the SC slot aligned horizontally, using the right-angle extension to get the mic stud vertical, then either mounting the mics directly or using another extension to gain the height I wanted.
FWIW, I've also used a Posi-Lok clutch (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/400142-REG/On_Stage_MSA_9501_Posi_Lok_Clutch.html) to achieve variable angle relative to the SC (rather than the fixed 90º of the 203).

Me, too. No issues using the 203 with a pair of 414's.
