This is the Sony ICD-TX50, a recorder designed to slip nicely into a shirt pocket. It's not suitable for the purposes of those reading here but I can't help thinking that there's probably no real reason why something like the M10 shouldn't be squeezed down into something equally inconspicuous in the pocket, if Sony put their minds to it. Maybe forget about putting tiny (omni probably) mics on it, just for use with externals. We ain't seen nuffink yet.

Wow. This thing looks 21st century.
But it doesn't have a line in.
And offers not even '24 bit'. (please note the quotes; 17-18 bits @ 48 KHz would be fine to me)
So the functionality is more like end of 20th century gear.
But that's no complaint, just meant as tip towards what they could implement.

It doesn't appear to have adjustable record level, just 'High, Medium and low' settings, buried in a sub
menu, and ,as it's a menu setting, it's probably a digital level adjustment.

It looks like a great little package. But, I agree they should dump the mics, add at least a line in, and possibly change the record level to a side control.

No mic in ::)

I'd like something like that for my personal collection of Stand Up recordings. There is certainly no open taping for Comedy but I really like having a record of it for myself. This would be sweet. I think.

It would be a good idea to turn the microphone part into a module that can be removed and replaced (sorta like how devices attach to the iPhone) with module with line-in and line-out jacks. Maybe another module with s/pdif.
Maybe easier would be one module that has some sort of universal plug that adapts to a ton of things like the Tinybox.

As recorders get smaller, lighter, cheaper and easier for the iPhone crowd to operate, the more people will start recording shows. Granted most will not sound all that great but it will make the venues, bands and management rethink their policies. What are they going to do, strip search the audience before shows?

Body scanners, like the airports...

Biggest question.....will it blend (like an iPhone)?
