Title: What do people think happened to this recording?

I grabbed a friends recording to patch with mine where I had an SD card failure. The waves from his recording  have some weird features which I've never seen on any recording I've done.

I've attached a screen shot. Anyone? Don't sound distorted but there is some low end funkyness. I used some multi-band compress to cut subsonics and the wave form started to look more normal but is still missing dynamic range in the negative for both channels.

You know what? I have seen this before and it was unexplaind then. It's the Marantz. I mastered all of the Jam Room recordings this year and Monty used a Marantz ACM671 and the above recording was an oade mod 661.
