Title: CA-11 compared to CA-14
Post by: Pultzar on May 31, 2012, 02:09:34 AM
Hello!

I'm trying to find the differences between the CA-11 and the CA-14.  This is what I know so far:

CA-14 has integrated wind screens
CA-11 can switch been omni and card caps.  Is this still true?
CA-14 is fixed omni or card

What about noise? Frequency response and range?  Max SPL?  Other sound quality remarks?

I'll be running a PCM-M10 likely with a CA-9200 pre-amp.

Thanks!

All of the above is correct.   Sound quality on the CA-14 is, IMHO, better as well although if you're stealthing the CA-14's are a little more noticeable (I've used them at arenas, clubs and music halls with *NO* problems).   Max SPL is more or less the same and the frequency response and range is better on the CA-14's.

I'd go with the CA-14's, personally.   I used to run the CA-14 omnis and CAFS omnis before I upgraded to DPA 4061's.  Still have a CA-14 cardioid set in my gear bag which gets used from time to time.

Unfortunately, there isn't a lot in the way of specs available for the Church mics.  At least that I am aware of...

From personal experience with the CA-11s, the SPL handling is good and the sensitivity is pretty low.  I couldn't put numbers on those, though.

How would you characterize the DPA 4061 to the CA-14?  I would consider the 4060 (I don't need as high of SPL handling) but the price is much much higher.  Do you use micro-dot connectors with your pre-amp?

The CA-11 version II is 20hz to 20khz Distortion is less than 0.5% @ 114 db at 1k.
The CA-14 ( Card ) version II is 20hz to 20khz  Distortion is less than 0.5% @ 114 DB at 1k.

not sure about CA-14 omni's.

I LOVED My CA-14[cards/omnis] when I had them. I need to rebuy those mics "just because" they are so small and useful :)

The closest sounding mic I make to the DPA 4061 is the ca-11 omni. With a good preamp like the 9200 they are quite good. The DPA mics are great mics and obviously the dpa mics are going to be great mics.

Are CA-14 omnis purchased in late 2009 "version II"?

Is the only difference the windscreen size?

Thanks in advance Chris

The capsule is different as well. 2009 = first generation.
The capsule has modifications done to it by the company that makes the capsule for me.
