Post by: indydarkstar on June 12, 2012, 07:58:58 AM
wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where to start looking to try to repair my MR-1.
The mini usb plug broke completely off of the board and I am having no luck at all finding anyone local to even look at replacing it.
thanks if anyone can help

Look at the Korg Website and find an authorized service center.

http://www.korg.com/support (http://www.korg.com/support)

Call the service center and make absolutely sure they will service the MR-1 though as some service centers only work on keyboards or other Korg products - my MR-1 sat at a service center for 3 months and no work was done until I got it back and sent it to another service center.

It may be cheaper to just buy a used one though ebay (usually sell for $100-200) or get the MR-2 using the Taperssection deal ($350).

If you have files on it you need you can pull the HDD And transfer using a ZIF to IDE cable and IDE HDD controller or external enclosure.  If you are not comfortable doing this yourself there are a number of people on this site who can do this for you.

thanks for the info.

yes I do have files on the hard drive but dont have the zif adapter to pull the data off of it.

I may attempt to salvage the thing myself (gulp) ,  just thought I would get some TS opinions first.

seems a shame to just toss the thing

They've become disposable.
I can't even find a way to replace my battery.

You can have my dead battery one for $100 and try to use the best parts of each.
It's a shame-- I bought 2 more to replace my first but the first one I bought is still a better deck.

I've considered trying to take it apart and replace the battery with one of the replacement ones I bought but I'm sure I would end up with 2 in the trash.
