Title: Possible to recover non saved file on Roland r-05?
Post by: tardis71 on June 24, 2012, 02:23:29 PM
So I'm at the end of the concert (Iron Maiden) and the R-05 is in my breast pocket.
Nicko throws a drum head into the crowd and it's coming right at me...I lift up my arm to try and catch it
and as it bumps off my hand...my freaking deck comes out of my pocket and hit's the ground.
I pick it up, put the batteries back in...it comes on..still works. But I never got to turn it off or save the file
that was recording!! ugh! So now when I put it on the computer I have a 1gb size file but it doesn't play....
is there any way to redo the saving process? Or somehow recover this file? Or because it wasn't saved initially
is it lost forever??
Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this? ugh... I should have turned it off and put it in my jeans pocket..I know!
Thanks in advance..

Sorry for your loss. The R-05 is one of the hidden gems out there. It like the M-10 but does not skip  ;D

Anyway, it sounds like your file is there and you should be able to save it. First for sure, I'd try and copy it and play with the copy. See if will open in Audacity or Soundforge of any program like that. See if you can flac it or change it in Traders Little Helper. Others more knowlegable will chime in, but there is this link if you have any DOS skills:

Good luck. I'm sure others will chime in that might be more skilled than I am at this.

Does the R-05 have that hidden menu thing LIKE THE r-09 & R-09hr where it fixes the file header?
I do believe all the edirol/roland machines now have that.
Here is the thread for the r-09's fix. I reckon it would be similar.

The R-05 DOES have a hidden menu. Here is that link:

I don't think the hidden menu has anything to do with repairing a file, but as newplanet7 assumes, it does have a repair function like the R-09.

See "repairing a file" on page 86 of the manual.
http://lib.roland.co.jp/support/en/manuals/res/62153053/R-05_e02.pdf

This function works beautifully in the R-09 and the R-09HR, so I would expect the same with the R-05.
