Has this happen to any of you. .At one of my shows this weekend some how I cracked the Lcd front plastic on my Roland R-09HR .The display is ok which is I'm lucky itself wasn't broken.Ok can I get a new front piece from Roland to fix my recorder.I 'm a electronic tech by trade so I should of have no problem opening it up and replacing the front piece on it.Meantime the recording came out great.

You might shoot acidjack a PM (or maybe he'll respond here). He cracked the screen on his old R-09HR but then, IIRC, the display stopped working altogether. Don't know if he attempted to fix his but he ultimately wound up just replacing it with another recorder. BTW, the display on the R-09/R-09HR is OLED, not LCD.

Ok thanks.Yes OLED.My bad..For now I'll put some plactic from those blister packages over it for protection.I'm glad the display is still working.Just the plastic outer clear casing is cracked with a little hole in it.

I fixed the R-09HR last night.I end up doing a stripdown and taking the broken plastic lens out with a sharp exacto knife. Then I cut out a piece of clear plastic the same size of the broken piece.I glued the new piece in place on the recorder.I check the OLED display while I had it apart. It was untouched which I was lucky. The repair only took 90 minutes to do.I have to say the R-09HR was easy to work on.
I was lucky I did not trash the display last weekend.I got 3 shows next week to do.I will continue to run my MD recorder for a back up in which I have been doing.
I probably endup retiring the 11 year old MD after I'm done recording.I dont know how much longer B&H will have blanks for it.
I will be looking for another Digital rig to replace the MD.Probably another R-09HR or equiv.

Well done and thanks for the follow up.
As far as a replacement for your MD, I believe the R-09HR has been discontinued. Take a look at the Roland R-05 or Sony PCM-M10. I picked up an R-05 to replace my aging R-09 and have found it to be a great little deck with similar specs to the R-09HR. The Sony also gets much love around here due to its great specs and insane battery life (15+ hours on a set of AA's).

No Problem on the follow up.Thanks for the info on the R-05 and the Sony.I will check them out.

That happened to me but I just rock it busted I had to chip away more so I could read the screen

I have no idea why they use that brittle plastic display window on the 09HR.They should of put more flexeble plastic then that brittle crap.
I replaced it with a flat piece of blister pack from a TDK DV tape 10 pack.
I did 3 gigs with no problem with the new display window.
