just got a pair of akg 391's bought and was wondering if anyone could reccomend me a good stand for them
also wondering what kind of placement everyone reccomends for these mics
il be taping outside at 20ft from the stage
Probably ortf or din at that distance. I use a bogen/manfrotto light stand that goes up to thirteen feet. I got mine from micsupply.com. They have a pretty large selection. I have seen the shure stand in the field a bunch, and it looks nice as well!

As for the stand, I highly recommend the bogen 3322B. It goes to 13 feet, and is the new "stacker" design. I recommend B&H photo as the retailer (let me know if I should edit out the retailer reference). I was actually able to buy a used 3322 through their website - was just like new, but $20 cheaper than new (and their new prices are cheaper than you will find on any taper website). http://hyperlink2.com/?201
There ya have it. Cool thing about ts.com, we can post retailers, which I for one, find a lot more helpful!
Good luck on the mic stand search!

At a distance that close, run DIN, you will get a good image and nice sound. Quite honestly, DIN will give you the best results with the 91 caps in most cases....
explain the abbreviations on din and such for someone who has never done anything but patch
thanks
Go here,

click on microphone university and configs...will give you definitions on all configs.
Oh yeah and on the stand, I have a Bogen 17 ft'er...and I would recommend Bogen over most in that you can leave that thing completely folded, duct tape it to the seats in an arena/shed and run it straight up....takes up a hell of alot less room....
I second the 3322B, just got mine today, what a nice stand.
I'm very happy with my APIC Featherlite stand. The Featherlite series includes a whole range of sizes. Mine extends to 15', and folds up to 26", I think. Nice and compact, yet still stable. They go for around $80. They can be reached at 201-261-2160. If anyone orders one, make sure you tell them it's for taping and therefore needs a 5/8-27 thread.
I wouldn't run the 391's anyway but DIN, try out some other configurations to find what you like but I think you'll be happy with DIN. Good luck!
