Been years since I've been on this site and just as long since I have taped a show. Took my recorder to A Bears Picnic over the weekend and had some issues. After recording for anywhere from 8 to 15 min my levels froze and showed no level fluctuation. I could stop the recording and push recored again the levels would start again. Anyone know what causes this. Been poking around the site and have come up with no answers.

bad cf card perhaps?

I have been messing around with my SanDisk flash cards and found the 4GB Ultra 2's will not format correctly in the 660. I keep getting error message after each attempt. Although, my regular SanDisk 2GB cards will format correctly and so far no issues. I will try and let it run for a while tomarrow and se what happens. The thing I don't understand is, I have used a 4GB Ultra 2 card while recording from a sound board patch. I don't understand but I/we will figure this out.. Thanks for the sugestions and in put. Next is a R4

2gb card plays well with the deck while 4gb card doesn't; is there a firmware update for the 660 you haven't installed yet?

I used sandisk ultra II 4 gig cards with no probs....sometimes the card needs to get formatted through disk manager on the pc to work correctly in the deck, I ran into that several times.

What firmware update for the 660 are you talking about?
-
I was asking if there was one.
I don't own a 660, nor any other marantz gear, so have spent no time on their website. Some other brands had updated firmware available in their support>downloads area and one that I'm aware of (M-Audio Microtrack2496) had a firmware update that addressed an issue with file size - 2gb max to 4gb max. Thought maybe marantz had issued an update that might fix the issue you're having.
If T-90's suggestion of formatting in the computer first doesn't help, you might want to see if there is a firmware update available.

There has not been a firmware update since 2010 but you can download it here if you need it. It looks like the update did address an issue with Sandisk cards: (Resolved format freezing issue when using SanDisk Ultra II series cards).
