Title: CA-UGLY-II Preamp - Battery Life and Recommended Rechargeables
Post by: scoper on August 24, 2012, 11:41:58 PM
I recorded my first show with the CA-UGLY-II tonight - a solid three hours.

It's my understanding that the circuitry is the same to the CA-9200??? What's the usual battery life and what do you recommend using for rechargeables, as 9V batteries are not cheap. For AA batteries I use the Eneloop LSD, which are great.

I've used the Powerex 9.6V's for years with my ST-9100 and Naiant Littlebox alike-- I must've heard somewhere along the way that they were a favorite among we taper types.  They've certainly served me very well, and the charger I use has the word "stealth" in its name =)

Great battery . Chris Church started the hype a few years ago by strongly recommending them for all his preamps. He does not recommend rechargeables which provide only 8.4 volts (which is most of them).

I've been using the Imedion 9.6 volt, 230 mAh low self discharge NiMhs in my Church Audio preamps and they work great as well. I much prefer LSD NiMhs to regular NihMs. Not only do you not need to recharge them before a show after they've been sitting for a few weeks, but they appear to me to last a lot longer before they need to be replaced. I just reconditioned my 4+ year old Eneloop 1.5 volt, 2000 mAh LSD batteries with my LaCrosse BC-900 Battery Charger and 85% of them were still showing over 2000 mAhs.
