Curious if anyone has used these mics?? The caps look like MBHO caps. I emailed Audix and asked, but got no response.

It was my understanding at one time MBHO did there caps. However I longer think that is the case. And yes the SCX-1 is the american version of MBHO. I don't believe they have the quality control MBHO has, but I could be wrong.

At $500/ea it's almost as expensive as MBHO too.

these come up on ebay fairly offen, and deff remember seeing prices around 500-600 a set used. new caps were deff priced right, and almost 100% they worked with the MBHO line. ever check out a fixed cap mic called Haun, model 660?? they sell them on that Thomann UK web store. seems like something worth wild as long as the Euro is down. ed

I have 3 of these and can confirm that they are MBHO caps. They are stamped with 'KA' and 'Made In Germany' inside.....still looking for a pair of omni caps for these. Anybody? They have really strong gain, low noise and are extremely detailed. And if you are looking for something discrete, look how small they are.
Not sure I would describe them as Audix's version of MBHO. I believe Audix designed their own preamp internals for these mics and so they apparently sound quite different. I suspect, with some ignorance and no experience in support, that the MBHO preamps are a bit better. In fact I started collecting the SCX-1, as they were so cheap, with a view to buying the MBHO 604 preamps for the capsules. They cost me $600 for all 3.

I wonder if the caps would work with MBHO's active cartridge! :hmmm:

Hi Jim
Do you mean woud they work on an MBHO modular preamp? If so, then yes definitely.
-
That's what I mean! Thanks Rich and it's John

They seem to have dropped in price a bit since I last looked....I will find out if these are the flat or with presence omnis. And perhaps sell my Elations....

They also have a hyper cap, I wonder if they have more than just the one left:

This has got me slightly intrigued...

Are you interested in just the cap for another preamp or the whole mic? I ask because single hyper mics are quite commonly available and very cheap. I think people break up the top-of-the-range drum set, the DP 8 Elite. They include one of these as the hihat mic. I got one for $120. Most definitely the best bang for buck I ever managed in gear purchasing

Just a pair of caps I think. I asked Naiant and his PFAs will work with the MBHO actives, so should work with these I suppose.

I think the expensive part is the active cartridge from MBHO!! I think a set is $400, but after that purchase you could get the audix caps for a good price and the have card, hyper, omni. A set of PFA's or tinybox and your in business.

Yeah, looking into it briefly after seeing all this. 400 for the capsule connectors makes it kind of pointless I think. With that, caps, and PFA or especially tinybox you're not getting much economical benefit as opposed to just buying the bodies. Also, they're small enough its not like the using the remote caps is that much difference.
