Taping Phish @ Dick's Sporting Goods this weekend. Last year I ran front left corner of sbd, and used my omni caps spread 3 ft, raised 10 ft. I want to try something different this year, and will most likely be up closer, more fob. Say 50 ft from stage or so.
Any suggestions? Would you go subcards, cards, or hypers? DIN or ORTF?
Thanks

walk the field and find the Sweet spot...at top of a equal distant or right angle...cards NOS...then you will know the spread Omni's were the right choice...so run four channels and get both
;D

I'm becoming less and less of a fan of wide splits/patterns outdoors and might recommend a pair of cards pointed just outside of the stacks with just a bit more capsule separate than normal. YMMV

if you're going FOB i'd get a lot closer than 50 ft. in San Francisco i was about 20-25 ft. from stage, used cards in a DIN(ish) configuration and it worked out great. the other FOB tapers were at 35 ft. and 41 ft., but with the fill speakers that Phish uses across the lip of the stage we didn't lose any vocals being that close and we got huge, tight bass. just my 2 cents.

I wouldn't bother with a split bar FOB at Phish either.
Also +1 on the tighter pattern closer to the stacks. Upfront Phish can be a chatty crowd, so if you don't like that sort of thing, plan your capsule selection accordingly.

so how did it come out? hope you had fun and got some good recordings.

As usual, I wouldve recommended Hypers/DINa in FOBean Land 8)

Finally getting back to this thread. I ended up going with the k41 subcards, DIN. I'm really happy with how they came out and plan on using my subcards more often in those situations.
