Looking to upgrade my collection with some mounting equipment to try some new things, and hoping someone could give me some advice on what to pick up. Mostly, I'm buying a new mic stand (13' Impact) and want to be able to clamp an extension bar onto it so that the stand can sit off center (I do most of my taping FOB at a bar room, and the sound guy doesn't like mic stands in his direct line of vision to the stage) but still extend the mics the sweet spot in the room. I'd be running a regular K&M stereo bar with cards, or sometimes just an SP LSD2.
I guess my question is...where should I start in terms of the clamp and extension bar? Anything anyone likes special? I'm on a budget, so less than $75-100 would be ideal.

It looks like you are essentially looking for a boom arm. If that's true it would not be very safe to put one atop a 13 foot stand.

When I run booms, I use sand bags. So your idea is fine, you just need to make sure that the stand is firmly rooted with sand/weights/tape.

I can't advise on boom arms, but the recommendation for sandbags is spot on, and here are some great ones. Just pick up a $5 bag of playground sand from your local home center and you're all set.

I would also warn you about running a boom on the end of a 13' stand. But I would DEF NOT use an LSD2 atop it. Thats just WAY too much weight IMO :)
