Hello,
I recently received CA-11 mics and a preamp 9000 from Church. This weekend I did my first tryouts and i have some questions/problems im hoping some of you can help me with.
On my first recording I only used the mics and not the preamp, plugging them in directly to my panasonic TM700 cam, to check out how much they can take without the preamp. Sound was allright but the weird thing was the left channel is so silent u can hardly hear it... . Would anyone know how that is possible?
Second recording I tried the preamp. Set everything up, plugged them in and checked the audio bar on my cam, but nothing happened. No sound at all, I switched the audio levels on the preamp, added gain, nothing worked. Am i doing something wrong here?
Thanks in advance for any help
Remy

bump! anybody can help?

How far are you turning the knob when you turn it on?
-
Have you done any experimenting at home with this? I recommend tinkering with it at home with the stereo playing nice and loud.

Read the following thread for some tips on settings for how to run the CA11s with a 9000.

wrt only getting one channel, that sounds like the plug wasn't fully seated in the socket or possibly the camera input is mono (not familiar with any video cams so I don't know if some are mono and others are stereo)

Appreciate the help guys! I will check out that topic first.
I did experiment with it at home, but had the same problem, no sound at all. I have turned the knob till the end once but no sound.

I've got stuff from Chris and no disrespect intended, the stuff was broken when received. It was packed well, no signs of damages--just broken when I got it. Chris is good people, so this thread really ought to be directed at him, and you need to get on the phone with him and he will walk you through the various test procedures. If it doesn't work out, he will take it back and pay you for the shipping back to him.
He is a pleasure to deal with.

Hmm, ok ill make some more tests this week, if it doesnt work out ill contact chris

I made some more tests but its still not working properly. I highly doubt my cam is mono as there is a stereo mode function on it and its pretty new too. However I cant adjust those settings anymore when I plug the mics in. I think there is one mic wich isnt working cause when I put it next to loud music nothing happens, in contrary to the other mic. Or maybe it is my cam? i dunno. The preamp is still not working either so im gonna contact Church about it i guess.

I'd certainly test it with something other than the camera, just to be super-sure, but it sounds like those mics are busted.

I am sorry I did not see this thread until now. But it could be the capsule is not making proper contact with the brass tab. Unscrew the non working capsule bend the brass tab up so it makes good contact with the center pin of the unscrewed capsule. Screw it back together and see what happens by plugging a pair of headphones into the preamp output and the mics into the input with a fresh 9v installed turn the preamp all the way up and set the gain to +30 db and talk into both mics you should have signal on both sides.

Update:
I tried what u suggested, however it doesnt seem to work, I lift the plate all the way up, its making contact but when I try it on my pc its still not working, when I make contact before closing it, the mic still doesnt work so I figure the mic itself part of it is broken or smth. anything else i can try?
