Title: milab vm-44 links mounting for stealth
Post by: ninjadave on October 19, 2012, 11:52:23 PM
can someone email me regarding the best way to mount these? for stealth? and i highly doubt that anyone is reading this site, if they are, just KNOWING that folks tape with different methods, only leaves a hand ful of options where to put the mics....its not rocket science, not discussing specifics is not going to make a diff. there are so many references, etc on here.....anyway...

the only ones looking for US are the anal retentive bands, like BOSTON, Rik Emmett, etc, those entirely against taping. I got busted taping Rik Emmett at a GA show on grass and i was in the middle of knowhere and someone spotted me. if they are looking they will find it.

general question however, does it matter greatly if the mics are pointing IN, both of them.......almost like XY but not even close, as opposed to pointing OUT, like ORTF........its really hard to mount these dam things.....and get them pointing OUT or straight for that matter. just didn't know if they were slightly pointing IN, would that do something to dynamics, etc. since the cardioid pattern is going to be overlapping in theory....they would be far enough apart however.....just angled in slightly...

just curious what others are doing stealth wise, with these size mics....thanks...my email is in my profile. ciao.

others will disagree, but for me personally, I like plain old AB for stealth.

I personally hate XY other than for very, very up close, so not relevant for stealth.   I would definitely not recommend mics just "pointing in" but not being coincident.  That will not produce a good result.
