Title: TSKB: Gear bags with transparent panels
Post by: Massive Dynamic on October 29, 2012, 11:29:29 AM
Are there any other gear bag manufacturers besides Kata, Petrol, and PortaBrace that make gear bags with transparent top panels?

It sure ain't rocket science.  You can add a panel to anything.

There are several brands available in different thicknesses; Crystal Clear Plastic Covering

Maybe check Joanne Fabrics, your seamstress or luggage repair shop.

I think sewing is outside of my DIY abilities. Besides, adding a clear panel to the top of my Nova 5 would be counter-productive, at best.

The more I think about it, it also seems counter-intuitive to secure a velcroed flap over your gear for indoor taping. If the meters show rec levels need adjustment, I am going to have to rip open the velcro to get at the controls, and this would be audible in many circumstances. Maybe I just need to get one in my hands to see how they work.

It's very easy to adjust levels with my pb bag

The PortaBrace bags generally leave a space for you to manipulate the level knob without opening the clear plastic front...

At least the one for my HD-P2 is that way...

clear panels are "nice to have", but not an absolute "must have".  i use gear bags with and without top clear panels, and i never feel like i'm at a diadvantage using a bag that doesn't have one.  in fact some nights i'm very thankful not to have a clear top panel.  bags without the top clear panel are much more resistant to"spillage" from those that are not very responsible with their liquid refreshments.

I made one with clear plastic and peel and stick Velcro for my small Petrol bag that didn't come with one. It isn't pretty, but it works. ;D

i put a hand towel over my clear panel when running at a show. i agree theyre not a must have but id rather have one than not. i am used to my loewepro nova 2 and my mtnsmith cairn 2 NOT having windows. but i bought a kata bag and got a dap1/rm multi in a trade i did and after using the pb bags again after not using them since i had my 722, i will find it hard to run without windows
