Title: Removing old/Installing New DVD Drive
Post by: blu666z on March 22, 2004, 04:11:29 PM
Got my new DVD burner in today.  It will be replacing my out DVD drive.  Running XP.  What procedures do I need to do to get this installed?  Will XP do most of it for me or do I have to remove the old drive through device manager before installing the new one.  Also, the new drive is OEM so I have no drivers...where should I get these?

It's good practice to remove the old drive from the device manager first.  It may not be absolutely necessary, most times XP will handle everything fine.  But conflicts can arise, so better safe than sorry.

Dunno about drivers, though. ;)

you wont need drivers. you may need to download a firmware update from the dvd manufacturer website

If you end up needing to find drivers you should look at the manufacturers website. If you cant find them there then driverguide.com is a good place to look. The passwork to download the files is Name: Driver  Password: All

IDE drives do NOT need drivers.  It's just a simple swap.  Make sure to set the master/slave jumper the same way on the new drive as on the old drive.  Then simply swap the connections.  The only software you may have to work with is reinstalling Nero (PLEASE tell me you don't have Roxio).
