I have tried to understand how to compensate eventual unbalances between the 2 channels at the mic-inputs and did not find anything.
So there is no way to eventually compensate mic unbalances with the Sony M-10?
-
Not on the M-10 itself. You either have to do it at the preamp level if you individual control of each channel. Or do it in post by amplifying one channel more than the other.
-
Yeah, for some reason one channel is always hotter than the other on these decks. I just boost it a bit in post if it's too noticeable.
-
Are you guys referring to just mic-in and not line-in? I've had the M10 for close to two years and only recently have started using mic-in PIP.
-
I guess this situation is the same (i.e. no independent level adjustment) also for the line-in of the Sony M-10, isn't it?
-
I was referring the statement about one channel being hotter than the other. Never noticed that. The dual gain adjustment is certainly no issue.
-
Independant adjustment of channel gains (in addition to the standard stereo gain adjustment) was one of the numerous things made available on the handheld Edirol recorders though the secret menus. Anyone ever find secret menus on the M-10?

I just balance in WaveLab
-
So...this channel imbalance is "normal and to be expected" with this device?

I don't know how normal it is - I don't recall seeing except when the source was louder one channel vs. the other.

I ran my second m10 out of the SBD weds nite and my levels were dead on. Usually with my mics I have to adjust gain on my LB
-
Sorry, my mistake, I didn't read close enough. No input issues, only when using built in mic's is one hotter than the other. Line & mic in are dead on for me.
-
My right channel is always slightly hotter than the left. This is running line-in, and is consistent across multiple gigs at a variety of different venues. I've tried different mics, so I'm fairly certain the imbalance lies within the M10. I tend to fix it in post, but, when I get a suitable opportunity, I shall play with the output pots on my CA Ugly II preamp.

I just got a M-10 and Ive noticed the right is always hotter and Ive taped 3 shows. Last night I taped Garbage and brought back out the Edirol R-09 just because Im not sure if my M-10 is defective or not. I have a CA9200 preamp and it works beautifully with the Edirol. Just wondering if there was a fix or what I should do. Fixing it in post seems like something we shouldnt have to be doing since we paid for this product to outperform its predecessors. Oh well. :-\

For lack of access to a secret menu setting on the M10, That'll correct for it for whenever using that preamp.
-
I often had to balance it post (using Goldwave - pan volume tool is easy) while using at853, Edirol R-09HR. Its true it was probably because of bad placing of my mics.
As I remember only for R09 was written here about hidden menu, not for the 09HR, right?

I verified the line-in balance of my m10 using a Tektronix signal generator.
It is basically dead on, with less than .1dB of difference.
Differences between the cheap, but quite good, internal mics are not a major concern for my use.
