Title: Marantz PMD670 digital input help xfer ring DATS

Hello folks, I'm at wits end with this damn thing. I have gone into the settings and switched the file info settings to:
PCM/Stereo/48k/WAV and when I'm done transferring the DAT, I put the cf card into my pc and the files show up at 128kbps mp2s :P wtf am I doing wrong? Please, any help is appreciated I have no clue what I'm doing

Now once I setup the digi in and the PCM settings, i hit record pause or record and the levels max out and no buttons work on it ??? I e3ven reset and ran the exe again and its still WACKED!!!!!!!

Sorry for the crappy pic. Thats what my screen reads now its LOCKED on that screen!

I was wondering about this today, if you had found any help... 

I can't help you, but I wonder if your unit is broken???  Have you tried to contact Marantz???

No not yet. It worked fine for awhile but no matter what my settings were it would record 128kbps mp2s :P

I use my old PMD670 to transfer DATs, and I just checked it and the factory default file format to write for analog stereo is MP2/128kbps, analog mono is MP3/32kbps, and Dig-In is MP2/128kbps, the one the OP keeps landing on with his.

By going into the menu and changing the setting for Dig-In to PCM, it will lock to the inbound PCM stream and match it's sample rate, 44.1k or 48k. Once PCM is selected, the next step is to engage the input lock to keep it on Dig-In/PCM.

It's been a while, but I think a recall that unless the input lock is engaged, the PMD670's input settings will revert back to the factory defaults each time the recorder is turned off and back on, when no batteries are loaded or power of some kind is feeding it while stored. Perhaps this could be the issue, and if so just using the input lock will keep it set where it needs to be.

I know I have the settimngs right, but once I hit record pause/record, it locks up on me and all the digits are lit up

What digital output do you have the 3700 set to?

In the menu of the 3700 you set this - you hit the two small square buttons and pause at the same time to get to it.

I'm def sending a signal I recorded 128kbps mp2s  before it locked up on me :(

1- Test that you can record the SPDIF from the 3700 with another SPDIF recorder...  Borrow a deck if you don't have one...
2- Test that you can record the SPDIF into the 670 with another SPDIF source...  Try your CD Player or something else with SPDIF out...

If test 1 works, you know the 3700 is good...
If test 2 works, you know 670 is good...

Which ever fails is the culprit...

Or its something, perhaps a setting somewhere, we haven't thought of yet...

I'm just going to sell the 670 and buy another KCY. Then pick up a used USB Audiophile and record w WaveLab 6.0
