Recorded a band in a tiny venue a couple of nights ago.
The soundguy obviously couldn't give a damn and the mix was off.
Most of my recordings I leave alone, but for this one I want to cut the treble - in particular the hi-hat (for want of a better description the 'tss tss tss' noise from the drummer), and possibly boost the bass a little.
Setup for this gig was SPCMC2>SPSPB1(107Hz bass roll off)>Nomad JB3
Could anyone suggest which frequencies to reduce, and by how much in the FFX bit of Cooledit 2000?
Apologies if this has been asked before, I did try and search for it.

first thing i would suggest is play the wav and pull up the Freq. Analysis.
i'm not too familiar with CEP2k (i use the 2.0 or 1.2a). but if it's the same, goto: Analyze > Frequency Analysis.
while you're playing the .wav, look at the FA graph. you can probably see graphically which freq. is centered for the high hats. i would bet that it's around 9-10k range.

i would boost a bit of the bass before you lower the highs. you may notice that the highs aren't as bad by adding back some of the bass you rolled off.

i'd use the parametric eq. and experiment with adjustment levels. you can center a freq. you want to raise/lower and adjust the dB.

marc,
your help is much appreciated - I'll take a look at this when I get back to my home pc.
If I wanted to just boost the bass, as you suggest, which frequencies should I go for, and by how much?

is it sylibace (sp)? The "ssssss" sound if you will?
play around between 6-9khz... that should help the hi-hat.

i think that's sybilance (sp?) like in the snl wayne's world episode where tom hanks is a roady for aerosmith and tests the mics...

that's it...
I can find it on an eq strip but I'll be damned if I can spell it!

Just like to thank everyone that replied. After an hour or two of frequency tweaking, I've changed an unlistenable recording to a bearable one, which is all I was expecting.
I'd +T if I could... :)
