Title: mk41v pricing question
Post by: microburst on March 01, 2013, 09:55:17 AM
I submitted a request for quote on a single mk41v to a company named TAI Audio who appears to be based out of Orlando, FL.  They came back with a price of $989.00 for a single capsule which seems too good to be true based on the pricing I'm seeing at Posthorn and other locations.  Does anyone have experience working with TAI Audio (www.taiaudio.com)?  If this is the real deal I'll buy but would like to get a little more comfort.  I'll look into consumer reports now.

Any info is appreciated.

They prob didn't see that "v" at the end ;D That price is correct for a mk41 cap. Price should be 1,485

I bought a pair of B1 windscreens from them I think.  I also got a quote for a VMS5U from them that was lower than anyone else.  The windscreens were 30 bucks or so I think, so I wasn't too worried about sending funds.  I have wondered though why their price on the 5U is cheaper than everyone else.
It was a couple of years ago, but I paid for and received the screens.
Not sure how much comfort that gives you...  but as far as I know, TAI Audio does exist.

So the quote, naturally, was bunk.  It was for the mk41 - not the 41v, though I was very clear that I was requesting a 41v quote.  The guy then called me and somewhat pressured me to buy the 41v pair for $2,028 matched.  I said to re-check the quote and confirm the pricing.  When he went back to confirm is when the shit popped that it was for the mk41, not the 41v.  Justin Marinoff just indicated to me that the owner of ProSound where he works used to be the owner of TAI Audio, FWIW.  Anyway, looks like my price sadly just went up a solid 998 bux for the pair, damnit !!  :'(

Tough.
I think that TAI's quote for the 5U was $400-500 cheaper than MSRP.  Somehow.
Good luck with the V's!!

In all reality there should be no difference in price for Schoeps products no matter where u get them, they are a fixed price from Schoeps and can pull u as a distributer if they find out u are selling below that fixed price, so usually the deciding factor who customer service and thats why most people here get theirs from Justin at Pro Sound or Jerry at Posthorn.

On that note, has anyone been to Jerry at Posthorn's "office" here in NYC?  It is BADASS!!  Bought some screens from him not long ago and he lives in a palace like lair (as far as NYC goes).

It's worth buying from Jerry at least once just to see that space (and all the random stuff lying around in it).

Jerry is a great guy, his house/studio is amazing. I always make a point to ask him what new toys he has lying around.

I would love to bring him to a Phish tapers section sometime with the sphere.
