Title: Iriver H120 CF Mod ISSUE (I think I messed it all wrong)
Post by: lordbelial on April 25, 2013, 07:58:30 AM
Hi,

A couple years ago I modified my Iriver IHP-120 with a CF adapter and a 16GB CF card so I got rid of my noisy and faulty HDD.
It worked flawlessly until a few months ago I decided to update the rockbox version on the Iriver.

OK I forgot completely that in the past I had to flash the Iriver with the 7pre4 bootloader

I don't know exactly what I did wrong but the Iriver is not working properly right now, for example

- Drops and "80 error no HDD found" error
- Says that the disk is full but it's only at 50%
- Random HEX code errors i don't know how to handle.

I was thinking on "flashing" again the iriver to his original state and then re-start de CF mod flashing from the start, but I don't know if it is possible or I could end with a Bricked recorder.

Any hints?

Thanks for the space!

It's been a while since I had to mess with mine.

Does it boot up to a screen at all now?

If I remember right you should be able to boot to a screen where it gives you the choice of where to boot from, ROM, RAM, HD? I'm pretty sure mine boots from the ROM.

I used to really get mine screwed up (software wise) when I first did the CF mod. But mine still works just fine. I doubt you bricked it, unless there is an electrical problem with it.

edit to add:

The Rockbox forums used to be a good place to get questions answered, but I doubt they are very active over there anymore.

Once you do the CFmod you can't upgrade to a newer version of rockbox.

I'm afraid that's the point.

Any chances to get damage done reversed?

Reflash the iriver and upgrade to the newer version or reinstall the version you were running before.

I'm trying to do so but no success... I might be doing something wrong, everytime I try to flash the Iriver IHP120.bin file it shuts down.
Any ideas?

I think you need the hard drive to reflash!!  Might be easier to just go back to the firmware you were using.

The other point is that I've lost the firmware I was using in first place when I did the CF Mod...

Don't know what went messy with this unit but everytime I try to create a new recording the unit shows an error message "the hard drive disk is full".
I've formatted the CF through the Windows XP utility and the error keeps showing.

That's why I thought of re-flashing the Iriver to factory default settings (un-rockboxing the device) but it seems that I need a hard drive to do so...

I'll keep on investigating.
