just got done talking to a guy(who says he worked for sony when the d8 came out). acording to him if you run mikes straight into a d8 you'll burn it up. you need to run them through a mixer first. does this make sence to any one here?

no that doesnt make any sense, thats what the mic in is for. we do it all the time and thats never the reason one has broken
-
wait up, isn't an attenuator needed to go from a phantom power box > D8 ?
-
thats just for your levels, but it shouldnt fry the deck. that just means you will get a bad recording
-
didn't make sense to me either, but didn't want to get into an argument.
tax refund coming soon so i'll be looking for mikes then. on a low budget it seems the akg c1000s are my best bet. have a limeted amount of shows in the area w/out traveling a couple hours or more, so i don't want to invest too much. ain't worth the trouble for crappy sound though either.
saw a couple threads w/ some info i could use, but can't locate them again. mainly refering to mike positioning and such.(my only experience w/ mikes was so you didn't have to screem so loud to be heard to know when the changes were up in a song).
any more hep on this matter would be appesiated.

id search the forums (you can use the search feature) plenty of info around. also if you go over to the dpa microphone site they have a piece called "mic university" that will tell you a lot
-
yeah dpa is cool. and by the time i got to the end of it i acually started to understand some things what i was trying to find was on one of these forums though. i remember pics of mike posistioning like dpa but it was here some place. i'll keep looking, i just wish i knew were.
thanks for the help, kirk

hey i think i have a 1/8 attenuator cable that i once used for mics > D8 ( stealth shows - csb > D8 ) let me know if you are looking for something like that. cheers.
-
i'm not sure what an attenuater is, never heard the word before this post.
"wait up, isn't an attenuator needed to go from a phantom power box > D8 ? "
one of my reasons for looking at the c1000s was so i wouldn't need to use phantom power. will this make a diffrence?
-
attenuators will lower the signal of the microphones so you wont risk overloading your D8 pre.
-
Running c1000's> D8 Line in, you will more than likely need line transformers to up the levels.
I wouldn't run it mic in.
This was my 1st rig :)
-
pnobles, is the attenuator cable you have -22db or -10db? TIA.
-
Could always run Naks -> D8. not sure what the C1000's are running these days, but you could prolly pick up a Pair of Nak 300's for cheap on ebay..

does anyone have an opinion on this one?
Hey, I had to end the auction, but I was hoping you may still be interested in buying them so I don’t have to relist with ebay and pay fees. I will drop the price to $250 if you are interested, since you’d save me about $10 doing it that way. Let me know, Matt

Dear fultzwagon,
how's it going, last mail didn't apear to go through, so if this is a repeat, please disregaurd. you posted two completely diferent pictures, and i was wondering which one represented what you are selling. the one w/ the single mike(not a pair) or the one w/ two mikes and cables(not listed as included)? could you please clarify this for me. thank you, kirk

Thank you,

he origionaly wrote back saying it was the pair, then went and stopped the auction. then offers to drop his price to $50 more than the bid. which must have been his. sounds like hes trying to pull one on me. what you think?

Hmmmm. If it were me, I'd spend the extra $10 and go through EBay/Paypal for peace of mind (assuming they offer some kind of buyer protection, I don't really know as I don't use them much).
