I am wondering if anyone has used a big ass Shure or DPA windscreen with their active setups on a Rycote Invision series lyre-type mount. I am contemplating making the purchase for indoor use mainly, but I am uncertain as to whether or not there would be enough of the capsule to be 'grabbed' by the windcreen to be of any use outdoors. Here is a pic with a mount:

Thanks for your time.

I use Oktava mounts with my schoeps when I need to PAS or the active bars just aren't the right mic config. There isn't much of the capsule showing and the screens fit on there good enough that I don't have to worry about them. I would imagine the record shocks would be just fine, as they "show" more of the capsule than my Oktava mounts do ;)

For outdoors, you can get this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/880280-REG/Rycote_041118_INV_8_Microphone_Suspension.html
and use 1) 5mm long softie, or 2) Rycote Baby Gag Ball: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/745941-REG/Rycote_011007_Baby_Ball_Gag_Windshield.html, plus a Rycote Windjammer: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/322367-REG/Rycote_021801_Windjammer_for_Baby_Ball.html
I have all these and they work very well. I use them for my Scheops CMC6 MK41, the capsule of MK41 is only 2CM long. Rycote InVision INV-HG mkIII Microphone Suspension is the improved version of a previous one. I love Rycote products.

Thanks for the info.

But is that an active configuration? Because the BBG does not work well with schoeps actives due to the short length. It is sized for use with bodies.
I am working on a solution for that issue, for a BBG + Schoeps active user.

It's a bit overkill for my needs, but I am sure that peeps would be interested in an alternative....the schoeps NOLA-style bars work great with the BA Shure's as I have a modified bar for ck1x courtesy of SmokinJoe:
http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=154260.msg1951487#msg1951487,
However, I would like a tighter config. other that NOS and I don't know if I want to risk buying another bar and screwing it up...the ck?x capsules are a weird size...

Those would fit into the AKG bars for Naiant actives, but they would be just a bit loose. The other concern is the geometry not being correct to achieve a specific pattern due to differences in the active coupler + capsule length.
I've sent some PMs, and hopefully we can get the dimensions sorted, and I can produce some bars sized specifically for those actives, for those who want to go that route.

I've been wondering whether the Rycote INV-1 would be appropriate for Schoeps and AKG actives and provide enough capsule exposure for DPA or Shure windscreens to fit?

This is a common question for the Rycotes, so I'll try to give a thorough breakdown. The INV-1, INV-2, and INV-3 are only meant for studio use because they lack a tension knob and, presumably, will shift vertically if bumped. The INV-4, INV-5, and INV-6 are what you need depending on your setup. I've always had trouble remembering the model numbers, so a good way to think about it is that the lyre sizes get bigger as you progress from the INV-4 > 5 > 6.
The INV-4 has two 9.5mm lyres. The're the best Rycote for use with MBHO actives, AT853s, Milab Actives, Schoeps CCM's with Lemos, or DPA 4023s.
The INV-5 has an anterior 20mm lyre and a posterior 9.5mm lyre and are what I would recommend for Schoeps actives. Others have used used these for DPA 4021s (although they're not listed as being compatible in the Rycote brochure) and are also the best choice for Neumann active users.
The INV-6 has two 20mm lyres and is the best choice for just about any microphone w/ full bodies. The INV-7 also has 2x 20mm lyres with wider spacing; appropriate for shotguns and long-bodied mics.
With regard to the Shure or DPA windscreens, the answer varies. Practically speaking, you can run them with any Rycote, however you may not be able to fully insert the capsule leaving a much larger chamber of air than expected. I'm not going to speculate how that could affect wind suppression or frequency response, but (again, practically speaking) I have done it and been pleased with the results. This holds true for the Schoeps active and DPA 4021/22s. If you run the 4023's (or MBHO actives) with the INV-4's, you will be able to run them with the capsule fully inserted.

Edit to add: Delrin mounting bars will allow you insert active microphones into the windscreen further than a straight Rycote. This is is because the 20mm lyre has to clip over the body of the active connector vs the cable entry point.

The other concern I have is that I am not confident that the BA windcreen will actually stay on the capsule in a windy situation...from just looking at my ck1x caps and the windscreens at home, it looks like only an inch or so would actually be inside the windscreen.
Thanks for the input guys, it helps alot.

Thanks a lot. This was very helpful. I have INV-7s that I use for standard full body SD mics. I've been trying to figure out what would work best with my Niant AKG actives and CMRs. So it looks like the INV-5 would be it.
-
Yup! INV-5 is the way to go and with either both the CMR and the Naiant Actives the capsule + body length is longer than a traditional KC setup, so you'll definitely be good on the windscreens.
