Title: CA14 mics with Soundman A3 ? (my Ugly II has a lose connection)
Post by: olli66 on May 09, 2013, 05:22:28 AM
hi guys,
can I run my CA 14 mics with the Soundman A3 (just 6V) ? I just tried at home and there seems to be no problem except I have to turn up my Tascam to 100 to get some volume. The Ugly II can boost the volume much more but I'm trying at home so a concert will, of course, deliver much more volume.
But my question is: will 6V do the job to propably power the CA14 mics?
My new Ugly II has a lose connection so when I just slightly touch it it goes on and off all the time so for stealth taping and having it in my pocket the Ugly II is no option...
thanks for your input

I have no direct experience of the A3, but I would think 6V would be enough, given that some people report using CA-14's with plug-in power (usually 2V max?) off recorders.

thanks
btw just got an email from Chris and he says my battery causes the lose connection
never heard that batteries are not the same size...well, I will follow his advice now and pick up a duracell...

If the battery turns out not to be the issue with your preamp & you need to run mic in to the A3 for a while, 6 volts should be fine. I've run CA-14's > Marantz PMD-620 with no issues. I measured the Marantz to have 4.6 volts PIP.
