Title: Countryman B3 + Tascam DR2D Mic-In
Post by: MLKLuke on June 07, 2013, 06:38:52 AM
just bought a pair of Countryman B3 (low sens. model > http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=162657.0) and I would like to use my Tascam DR2D to tape with these rigs:

1 - AT853 > 3Wire BBox > DR2D Line-IN
2 - Countryman B3 > DRD2 Mic-IN

the question is: is DRD2 Mic-IN capable to correctly power the B3s without overloading/brickwalling issues or I necessarily have to use a dedicate battery box for them as I do for ATs?

thanks in advance for your help

Personally, I would use a battery box.  Better safe than sorry, and all, and they are small and inexpensive...

You could measure the PIP voltage and ask Countryman how the mics would perform with that supply, though, if you are really dead-set against using a battery box.

I already have a classic SoundProfessionals battery box ready but it would be nice not to need it to leave something at home and save some space in my taping-bag  :)

I ran my B3's directly into my M10. It worked fine for quiet acoustic shows. It did not work well for loud shows. I'd use the battery box for loud shows with the B3's.

good luck with your new omnis - running 2 rigs at the same time can be pain - but it is possible, did it during last years CURE festival tour from time to time
w/pair of AT853 and w/pair of DPA4061  8) __ similar to what you have __
the most incommodious thing is not to bring 2 BBoxes - it's wearing 2 sets of mics, right ?!!?
