Title: ua-5 compatability
Post by: jkoch on March 29, 2004, 01:45:47 AM
edit: i'm and indecisive bastard...so... i was looking to get some new mics relatively soon, but i'm not sure what, so...basically what i need to know is if anyone here knows of any problems with the connection between

1) Neumann SKM140/SKM184 > digi mod (warm) ua-5
2) AKG 480b/ck-61s > digi mod (warm) ua-5
3) MBHO 603/200s > digi mod (warm) ua-5

has anyone tried these combos? anyone suggest anything?  thanks in advance.

none that I know or have heard of.  Your best/cheapest bet is to go with a ua-5 with a preamp mod.  Most can't tell the difference between the warm mod UA-5 and the V3, or they prefer the UA-5 :)

how much more would that run? will they do it off the bat from oade? the digi mod i was going to do makes it $295 i believe. thanks again!

around $550 for an imitation v3, i think

you can only get the preamp mod done if you buy it from oade, otherwise they won't touch it.  They do it at time of purchase or you can return it later to have them do it, but it originally has to be purchased from them.

what i would do ... get the neumanns and a digi-mod ua-5 from oade, this keeps your starting cost a bit lower  ; then when the upgrade bug hits, you can get the warm or presance mod done and have a killer combo.
