Title: Low gain Oktava MK-012 w/ MixPre-D

I'm finding I have to turn up the preamps on my MixPre-D all the way in order to get decent levels with my Oktava MK012 stereo pair.
I seem to get much better gain with my (much cheaper) stationary mixer (Soundcraft EPM6). Any ideas why?

If I remember right, there's something about the way they are wired that causes trouble for certain pre-amps.

Quasi-balanced is what I remember... anyone? I couldn't find it with a search here and my brain isn't as good as it used to be.
